IAA Programs in the Field of Education from 1995-2007

  • In 1995, IAA organized a technical workshop and a children exhibition in Sulaimaniya.
  • During the period 1996-2003, 2000 women participated in the IAA classes to learn how to read and right, in Kurdistan region, including Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Duhawk. 54 Women passed the final exams successfully in 2003 in Sulaimaniya.
  • A nursery school was built in the center of training and education, in Erbil and Sulaimaniya. 
  • In 1998 two centers were opened in Erbil and Sulaimaniya, aiming initially to develop women’s basic skills, which were extended to include both male and female society individuals. The initial aim of each center was training and educating , it also included the courses that applied a wide program for teaching elders, training on feasible skills , like learning how to read and write, handicraft and sewing arts, health and physical fitness, students developing courses, training on computer skills, in addition to presenting legal and social consultancy.
  • In spring 1998, an exhibition for children drawings was organized, under the slogan (Environment, Peace, and Children rights) with the participation of Ministry of Education and some famous artists. About 325 children participated in the exhibition from Sulaimaniya, Erbil and Chamchamal. A gift from the children’s of France drawings was shown. Most of drawings were presented to France, Greece and Great Briton.
  • In 1999, an exhibition for wall throwaway / billboard was set in Kalar under the slogan (Environment and children rights) where 100 students from secondary schools participated.
  • During 2000, 2001,2002,2006,2007, IAA with the participation of British children protection box and other organizations, organized celebrations in the anniversary of Global child day.
  • In 2002, IAA implemented a program for legal and social awareness to about 23000 students in 107 secondary schools and high education institutes in Sulaimaniya and Kalar, the program included a prelude in law and jurisdictive system, an explanation to gender and civil society concept, an identification of personal status law, and the law of youth custody.

Women miscellaneous activities 

Two workshops were organized concerning (Development and social kind) in Erbil and Sulaimaniya in July 2000, 60 trainees attended the workshop, representing the civil society organizations. It was considered the first initiative to launch the gender concept among NGO’s in Kurdistan.

Defense

In April 2006, IAA along with other women groups, launched the media campaign of Iraqi women march, under the slogan (Yes to Equality not for Discrimination), aiming to mobilize the public opinion around the national unity affairs, against terror and sectarianism, for peace, stabilization, law sovereignty, preserve law of personal status, launching for international treaties of human rights, agreement of exterminating all kinds of distinguishing against women (SEDAW) and  security council resolution #1325 . Its wide activities included organizing conferences, festivals, workshops in Baghdad, Najaf, Nasiriya, Basrah, Sadat Al-Hindiya, Hillah, Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Kirkuk.  Numbers of Radio and T.V. programs were set in this occasion.

Youth

·         In 1996 IAA started the cultural center in Sulaimaniya, in which a lot of scholastic, cultural, artistic, athletic and technical programs for children and youth were implemented, besides providing the young researchists with scientific and notional sources. The center continued its activities until 2002.

·         In spring 2002, IAA organized in Erbil, the championship of Chess for youth clubs, including the governorates of Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Duhawk.

      Human Rights

In December 2002 until January 2003, IAA organized nine scholastic quoits to the

students of Salahal Deen and Sulaimaniya University under the slogan (Violence
