Education

  • In 1997, Contribution of buying raw materials for Vincent Youth training center in Erbil.
  • Constructing a nursery unit in the training and educating center in Erbil and Sulaimaniya.
  • In 1998 two centers were opened in Erbil and Sulaimaniya, aiming initially to develop women’s basic skills, which were extended to include both male and female society individuals. The initial aim of each center was training and educating , it also included the courses that applied a wide program for teaching elders, training on feasible skills , like learning how to read and write, handicraft and sewing arts, health and physical fitness, students developing courses, training on computer skills, in addition to presenting legal and social consultancy.
  • In spring 1998, an exhibition for children drawings was organized, under the slogan (Environment, Peace, and Children rights) with the participation of Ministry of Education and some famous artists. About 325 children participated in the exhibition from Sulaimaniya, Erbil and Chamchamal. A gift from the children’s of France drawings was shown. Most of drawings were presented to France, Greece and Great Briton.
  • In 2000, a celebration was organized in Erbil where the children in primary schools delivered poetry.
  • During 2000, 2001,2002,2006,2007, IAA with the participation of British children protection box and other organizations, organized celebrations in the anniversary of Global child day.
  • A field survey was implemented to the schools of youth in Erbil in 2002, and according to its results, three centers for teaching young females were opened in Erbil in 2003.
  • Many courses of training on computer skills were organized for youth in different residential units in Erbil during 2005.
  • From 19th of March to the 21st of May 2006 in Erbil, the project of (Teaching and culturing children) in Kawah assembly for displaced Iranian Kurds, which included purposeful lyrical and acting shows in dealing with parents and friends , and awareness instructions regarding cleanliness.

Health

The Mobile clinic in Erbil

  • First Mobile clinic (for pregnancy care) started in the villages of Erbil governorate in April the 7th 2003, directly post war, aiming to offer basic health care for emergency cases of pregnant women. The numbers of beneficiaries were more than 1000 women. The project succeeded not only in numbers of beneficiaries, but through achieving other goals, mostly spreading health care, NGO’s role in the process of development and relief. In addition to submitting services for other non-pregnant women and sick children. IAA medical clinic donated a quantity of medicines for chronic diseases and others for children’s treatment, and personal donations.
  • At the end of the project in the 6th of May 2003, a workshop was set, IAA management staff members and member of the donor organization, attended the workshop to evaluate the project. Determined goals of the project were achieved in addition to submitting health care services for those who lack for treatment and suffering difficult circumstances as well.

IAA clinic in Erbil

·        In April 1993 Erbil clinic was started in Setakan neighborhood –Erbil, and still welcoming people daily. Medical treatment is offered through clinic, especially for women and children, besides health awareness, vaccination, and implementing different minor operations. Low fees are collected from patients necessary for auto-finance. Number of visitors to the clinic is 5000 per month.

·        In the 29th of April 2006 Natural treatment and Chinese piercing section were opened in the same clinic.

IAA Hospital for child Birth in Erbil

  • IAA, with the support of French popular aid and EU, had completed building child birth hospital in Erbil which consists of 50 beds and 3 operation halls, 2 lab. units, X Ray, dispensary, and women and children out patient clinic. The hospital was donated to Ministry of Health at Kurdistan government. It was handed over in June 2005.

Miscellaneous health campaign

  • In 2002 health and environmental awareness for both children and individuals was implemented in distant villages in Erbil governorate.
  • In 2003 IAA implemented first aid program where200 youth of Darataw complex have participated in.

              Gender

  • Implementing income productive projects such poultry training during 1999-2000. 43Widows benefited from the project settling in Harka in Erbil. The project of domestic animals was also implemented by the support of (WFP) which continued for 30 months commenced from Nov.2000 until April 2003.3017 Widows got benefit of it, who were distributed in 67 villages and 9 complexes in Erbil. The beneficiaries received courses in education, health care, marketing and other expertise necessary for the success of the project. In 2006 IAA with the partnership of Microsoft and International training Institute held a program (the Women in Technology) which provides advanced program to women and training opportunities in the field of planning projects and personal expertise and data technologies. In Baghdad and Erbil many computer training courses were held according to Microsoft unlimited potentials UP (Ambition without Frontiers). Each course lasted one month, 132 Displaced Kurds and Iranian beneficiaries in addition to state officials at Balsalawa and 22 beneficiaries in Baghdad benefited from the aforementioned course.
  • In order to develop the capabilities of trainers in the program,12 trainees of the society from Baghdad, Salahaldeen,Najaf and Karbala’a participated in the training course about the basic fundamentals in ( Windows,Office and Internet) held in March 2007 in Baghdad for ten days.

Miscellaneous Women activities

·        In 2000 IAA organized an important field research regarding violence against women in Erbil governorate. 2600 Samples were taken from different places in the governorate, and many investigations were implemented to those who were connected the aforementioned subject. The results of the researches were submitted to a seminar attended by more than 100 experts and activists in different fields. A copy of the research in English and Arabic can be obtained from the site of the society at the Internet.

·        In July 2000, In Erbil and Sulaimaniya, two workshops were organized about (social gender and development) that were attended 60 trainees representing civil society organizations. It’s considered as the first initiative for the gender concept among NGO’s in Kurdistan.

Defense

  • Numbers of IAA representatives participated in elections surveillance which were held in the 30th of Jan.2005 in Erbil.Also participated in 2nd elections surveillance which were held in the 15th of Oct. 2005 in Erbil.
  • In April 2006 IAA with other women’s groups commenced media campaign for Iraqi women’s march under the slogan (Yes to Equality and not to discrimination) aiming to mobilize public opinion about national unity issues and against terrorism and sectarianism, and for the sake of peace and stability and law sovereignty , and to preserve the personal status law and launching the international conventions for human rights and the convention of  eliminating all kinds of segregation against women( SEDAW) and UN resolution No. 1325. Its wide activities included organizing conferences, festivals, and workshops in Baghdad, Najaf, Nasiriya, Basrah, Sadat Al-Hindiya, Hillah, Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Kirkuk.  Numbers of Radio and T.V. programs were set in this occasion.
  • From the 18th of Feb. until the 20th of Apr.2006 IAA with the participation of a group of  NGO’s in Erbil , implemented ( The popular awareness project in the houses of representatives of the Iraqi Parliament), by implementing a questionnaire to determine the citizens claims directed to Parliament panelists. 40 sessions were held, conducted by activists in the field of advocacy.1420 citizens attended the occasion.
  • IAA with other domestic NGO’s sent an invitation to hold a conference about the national unity, similar to the official conference held by the Arab countries league. Three regional conferences were held (Shaqlawa, Hillah and Nasiriya) during Jul. and Aug. 2006, those conferences were attended by 260 representatives from NGO’s and different social, cultural and advertising personalities, who presented their recommendations to the political parties and the Arab countries league. IAA representative was delegated on account of the civil society organizations to attend the preliminary meeting of the Arab countries league conference which was held in Cairo in the end of Jul.2006. In Mar. 2007 the civil conference of national unity was held in Baghdad , 100 participants attended the conference , representatives of NGO’s, civil society and few Parliament panelists discussed sovereignty ,equity, constitutional amendment, civil society role in enhancing dialogue and social coexistence and the relation between civil society organizations and the government.

Youth

  • In 1996, a social party was held and donations were collected on account of the social custody center for boys in Erbil.
  • In 2000, IAA built a summer camp for youth in Sheraswar – Erbil.
  • During spring 2002, IAA organized a chess championship for youth clubs in Erbil, Sulaimaniya and Duhawk.

Human Rights

  • The Mobil Theater started in Erbil for the years 2005 and 2006, it presented a show expressing the human rights abusing. The show was presented in many complexes, villages and districts as well.
  • In Dec. 2006, IAA held an affective media conference in Baghdad, to cover the activity of re-gathering a Kurdish family in Erbil, which had lost one woman during early nineties. The woman was called Rahma Khidir Ali, born in 1949, and was found during implementing the IAA Bureaus activities in Shanafia-Diwaniya.
  • From 5-6 Nov. 2006, IAA contributed in starting the (project of succoring the flood affected families), the flood that had overran some districts and villages related to Suran and Juman provinces in Erbil, and for that a project was implemented which lasted one month aiming to submit relief to (167) affected families, by distributing food supplies, fuel and cloths by the support of the International organization of Migration (IOM).

Re-Construction

The following buildings were re-constructed:

·         A secondary school consisting of 12 classes in Juman region, by the French popular relief and the common European Market. The building was completed in the 5th of Aug.1996, and delivered to the Ministry of Education in Erbil.

·         Two secondary schools in Erbil, each one consists of 12 classes, and a primary school consisting of 4 classes in Taktak district. The building was completed in 1997, 1999, and 2002.

·         Number of clinics and residence units for medical cadre in many regions of Erbil in 1999.

·         The building of Educational supervision - Ministry of Education in Erbil 2002.
